The critics love Patti LuPone. Ben Brantley, who had not liked LuPone at City Center, raved this time. Kuchwara, the NY Daily News and Post, and Variety were also raves and John Simon called it the "Best 'Gypsy' Yet" @ Bloomberg.com. The one negative came from a surprising Linda Winer @ Newsday who went the opposite direction from Brantley--from a rave for the City Center incarnation to a luke warm reception of the current production. Newsday saw fit to put Charles McNulty's rave from the LA Times right next to Winer's shrugging review.
