Possible side effects of Meridia
For many people who are overweight shedding the excess pounds can be difficult but they have plenty of time to work at it. However, for those that are dangerously overweight or obese there is an urgent need to lose weight quickly, which isn't easy. There are certain prescription medications that are designed to help with this speedy weight loss in order to bring obese people down to a healthier weight, one of which is called Meridia.
Unfortunately, whilst Meridia can be effective in helping people to get down to a safer weight so that they can then switch to a more traditional weight loss plan, it also comes with a range of possible side effects some of which can be very serious. In fact, the seriousness of these side effects has led to Meridia being withdrawn from the market in the United States in 2010.
As is the case with most medications, there are some milder side effects that can stem from taking this weight loss drug. This includes constipation, irritability, nervousness, anxiety, dizzy spells and insomnia. Worryingly, this drug has also been linked to some very serious side effects, which has led to its withdrawal in the USA. Some of these more serious side effects include rocketing blood pressure, seizures, bleeding, anorexia, and serotonin syndrome, which is a potentially fatal illness.
As a result of these side effects this is a medication that should only be taken under strict medical supervision and monitoring, which means that those that have supplies of this medication should never allow someone else to use it. The dangerous side effects are also the reason behind the medication only being use as a very short term measure to boost weight loss in obese patients.
